Mobilising in style

Silverburn, located in Pollock, just south of Glasgow, is one of the UK's largest out-of-town retail destinations, stretching over 1 million sq ft and employing 2500 people.

Home to 95 shops and 14 restaurants and cafes, including the largest Next, and Tesco stores in Scotland, Silverburn hails as a one-stop-shop on the world of fashion, beauty and food. Inspired architecture and alluring spaces play home to big High Street favourites, designer boutiques, and one-off stores.

Interserve has worked closely with the centre since its inception, ensuring a smooth mobilisation and successful opening in October 2007. Today, Interserve's dedicated 120-strong team delivers a tailored service solution that ensures customers feel relaxed, safe and comfortable.

Its opening created some 3,000 jobs in the local community and one of these ventures involved working closely with Equip, a Glasgow recruitment agency, to ensure that the local communities truly benefited from the employment opportunities available at Silverburn.

A specialist mobilisation team was deployed to manage the newly employed systems and act as the principal point of contact during this delicate period. During this time Interserve was heavily involved in a variety of community and environmental projects. During the mobilisation phase the training and development of staff was crucial.

In the lead-up to Silverburn's grand opening Interserve held a Welcome Day, which was attended by special guest Kriss Akabusi. "It is such a great honour to be involved in the beginning of this centre. There is an obvious dynamic and spirit within the team and I was impressed by the enthusiasm these individuals showed in being a part of Silverburn."

In preparation for their new roles staff underwent an intensive training programme, 'Silverburn Spirit'. This initiative was exclusively designed and tailored to match the high standards needed for a site such as Silverburn. Health and Safety is given top priority at Silverburn, with employees undergoing certified Health and Safety training. As well as IOSH trained trainers, over 30 members of the team are First Aid trained, with a specific emphasis on the operation of defibrillation equipment. Additionally employees benefitted from COSHH training and guest safety hosts achieved SIA (Security Industry Authority) accreditation.
