Facts and figures

  • The schools are robust, energy efficient and designed to respond to the pressures of climate change, and achieve optimum Whole Life Value for our clients
  • Flexible designs providing multi-functional space and equipment. Dining spaces are also fully-functional as learning spaces and all schools are ICT-enabled throughout, with flexible-in-use furniture
  • They can easily be re-configured using the furniture or moveable walls, or even by removing walls over holiday periods

Why did we do this?

Building Schools for the Future (BSF) is part of the national secondary school renewal programme and Interserve is committed to help achieve the objectives of the scheme.

These BSF Schools are designed to be the focal point of the community and the role we play in their operation assists further with achieving regeneration aims.

How did we do this?

Interserve joined the ‘Environments for Learning’ (E4L) consortium to help deliver the objectives and in Leeds we have built and will service new schools that have been designed to create exciting and engaging environments in which learning can take place. The design of the buildings delivers appropriate learning environments for the 21st century and is a catalyst for innovative and collaborative teaching approaches that ensure that every student reaches their full potential.

We encourage the buildings to be actively used by the community, facilitating evening and weekend opening for activities, maximising the opportunities for engagement and helping deliver life-long learning.

Benefits

  • Buildings adaptable to changing social and climatic conditions
  • Regeneration of communities
  • Energy use and carbon emission reductions invoked at design stage
  • Reduced use of finite resources
  • Reduced potential costs
