Patients benefit from rigorous new standards
Interserve was awarded a Facilities Management contract by South East Hampshire's three Primary Care Trust.
The contract covers most local NHS premises in Portsmouth, Fareham, Gosport and East Hampshire, as well as GPs, who work in health centres.
Encompassing several community hospitals, local health centres and clinics from dental to podiatry means that the needs of 49 units vary almost as widely as the functions of the buildings.
As well as the general office and ward cleaning, we also deal with medically-led post infection cleaning. We closely liaise with hospital staff to handle all types of infection in the correct manner, following NHS guidelines. Our staff are trained to be sympathetic, while remaining businesslike and focused on the task. In addition, staff are thoroughly vetted, Criminal Records Bureau checked and cleared.
We work closely with the NHS, adhering to agreed standards and reporting on a regular basis aiding us in our understanding of their culture and their needs for modern, purpose-built facilities, and ageing buildings. Our wealth of Private Finance Initiative experience ensures the swift mobilisation of new contracts when some of the existing older accommodation has been replaced by new buildings. We also make sure that there is no interruption of the normal high standards of services despite any move of premises. One of the clients was impressed to witness a 'seamless transfer' during the mobilisation period for the contract.
We currently employ 270 people most of whom transferred under TUPE from the previous incumbent contractors. The contract operates under a performance measurement system to ensure that high performance standards are maintained. Patients will benefit from improved environments thanks to the rigorous new standards built into the contract; staff will gain from having a greater say in how the work will be undertaken. As a result of the revised management and support structure, our managers feel more empowered, better supported and able to operate more effectively.
