Interserve, the services, building and maintenance group, has won a key contract at the first new racecourse to be built in the UK for almost 100 years at Great Leighs near Braintree in Essex.

R&D Security, the specialist security business acquired by Interserve in January 2008, has been awarded a fire and safety contract to protect the race-day stables, grand-stand and main club at the new Great Leighs Racecourse.

R&D Security supplies, installs and maintains CCTV, intruder alarms, technical surveillance and access control and is now part of Interserve Security.

John Holmes the owner of Great Leighs said: "After seven years of planning and hard work, it is essential that, to the last, everything is perfect. Safety and security in particular, is of the utmost importance. R&D Security has an excellent track record in supplying tailored solutions for a variety of event based environments. This made them the natural choice.”

Steve Neville of Interserve added: "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to be involved in the launch of what is a pioneering 21st century racecourse. We will work closely with the team at Great Leighs to design and implement a total security service to protect the facilities, staff and race-goers alike.”
