Interserve develops £8m rehabilitation complex at DMRC Headley Court

24 June 2010

News-PrinceWilliam-Headley-courtInterserve, the international services, maintenance and building group, has completed an £8 million contract to develop a state-of-the-art rehabilitation complex at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) Headley Court, Surrey. The contract was executed through Interserve joint venture, PriDE, and co-funded by ‘Help for Heroes’ and the MOD. It was opened on 4 June 2010 by HRH Prince William of Wales.

DMRC Headley Court is a tri-service military unit set in 87 acres of Surrey Green Belt. It specialises in the treatment of military patients with complex trauma, brain and spinal injury as well as a wide range of musculo-skeletal and rheumatologic conditions.

The new, modern, purpose-built facility, which removes DMRC’s reliance on off-site facilities, includes a five-lane, 25m swimming pool with moveable floor to maximise rehabilitation use, swimming jets and aqua joggers, two new gymnasiums, physiotherapist treatment areas, consulting suites, an area for gait analysis, a centre for injury research, a cardiovascular suite and a regional rehabilitation complex.

Interserve delivered a one-stop approach providing project cost and design management, construction and technical advice. The project has been completed two months ahead of schedule and to budget.

Brian Talbot, Interserve Managing Director, Defence, said, “DMRC Headley Court is a unique, key national facility which performs a vital role in supporting injured service personnel. We are therefore delighted to have been involved in such a worthwhile project, working alongside our nominated charity, Help for Heroes.”
